Drug Test (if hired) Duties: Must be able to perform all duties related to the repair and maintenance of county roads, bridges, and right-of-ways, including but not limited to operation of small tools such as weedeaters, chainsaws, able to operate mowers and bush-hogs, ability to drive trucks and plow snow, direct traffic and any other jobs that might be required. Indiana Department of Transportation sent this bulletin at 03/27/2023 09:00 AM EDT March 27, 2023 S.R. 156 to close April 3 for slide repair in Switzerland County, Ind. — Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Sunesis Construction plans to close S.R.156 on or after Monday, April 3 to complete a slide repair and erosion control project in Switzerland County. Under the closure, crews will work to stabilize and repair a 2,100-foot section of roadway located between Turtle Creek Road and Wade Hill Road, east of Florence. Bulgar Tapp Road will be accessible from Hominy Ridge Road. Motorists should utilize the official detour route which follows S.R 129, to U.S. 50, to S.R. 56. The contract was awarded to Sunesis Contruction Company for $6 million in January and work is expected to be complete by late fall. INDOT reminds drivers to use extra caution, avoid distractions, and consider worker safety when traveling through active construction zones. ASPHALT RESURFACE PROJECT TO BEGIN MARCH 20 IN SWITZERLAND COUNTY Asphalt resurface projects to begin March 20 in SWITZERLAND COUNTY, Ind.— Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Dave O'Mara Contractor Inc. plans to begin work next week on a $7 million asphalt resurface contract in Switzerland County. Beginning on or after Monday, March 20 motorists should anticipate lane closures beginning on S.R. 250 between Pleasant and Patriot. The project will be completed under flagging operations as crews work to complete asphalt patching, milling and paving. Asphalt resurface work is also planned on S.R. 156, from 0.13 to 1.8 miles west of Markland Dam near Florence. The contract was awarded to Dave O'Mara in December 2022 and is expected to be complete this fall. S.R. 156 to close March 14 for slide correction in Switzerland County Switzerland County, Ind. — Indiana Department of Transportation contractor GeoStabilization International plans to close S.R. 156 on or after Tuesday, March 14 to complete slide repair work in Switzerland County. The project site is located one mile north of Wade Hill Road near Florence and west of Put Road near Patriot. State Road 156 is anticipated to stay closed through late April, while the contractor completes work to stabilize the roadway and hillside with soil nails and shotcrete. Guardrail installation will follow. The official detour route for the closure uses S.R. 56 from Vevay to Rising Sun. State Road 250 will be open for access to the Patriot area. COUNTY HIGHWAY TO DO CHIP AND SEAL - Beginning Around 8/1/2022
The Switzerland County Highway Superintendent and the Switzerland County Board of Commissioners have agreed to begin Chip and Seal on County roads beginning in approximately 60 days, on or around August 1, 2022. We recognize the need for Chip and Seal, since the roads have not been addressed for the past couple of years. The County roads scheduled for Chip and Seal are as follows: District 1 – Jefferson/Craig Townships: • Campbell Road • Bakes Road • Tague Road • Plum Creek Road District 2 – Posey/York Townships: • Florence Hill Road • Hominy Ridge Road • Little Hominy Ridge Road • Turtle Creek Road District 3 – Cotton/Pleasant Townships: • Aaron Road • Pleasant Grove Road • Knigga Road • Knigga Crossing Road If you have questions, please contact Anthony Thomas, Highway Superintendent, at (812) 801-3509.
